The birthday of your firstborn is a milestone because it made you a mama. Today's that day. And this week, my youngest starts high school. For 27 years I've been momming, taking care of someone else every day. Not a day has gone by that I haven't been taking care of someone in the capacity of it being "my job." I celebrate these milestone events in the form of a book I wrote called Fledge--the book that covers everything about parenting, the love, the grief, and letting go, from the minute you bring your firstborn home from the hospital until the last one leaves for college, marriage, or on their own. It's the best of times, and the worst of times. Rolled all in one. Thoughts and prayers to each of you mamas, with milestone events this week, too. I'm right there with you!

It’s #nationalbookloversday so this teacher and counselor is sharing four greet parenting books that complement Fledge: Launching Your Kids Without Losing Your Mind. @loriwildenberg ‘s new book Messy Parenting releases on the 20th! @gaylagrace’s book for stepfamilies released this week. @leenienhuis book Brave Mom Brave Kids released this spring and @triciagoyer’s book Calming Angry Kids releases in October. Such great resources for your back to school library.

My prayer for you, mamas, and many of you are taking kids to college this weekend or sending some off to milestone years this week. If you need to, just shut the door and cry it all out to God. I’m so excited to get this book by my Mennonite friend @thebooksellersdaughter and publisher @heraldpress. #Repost @thebooksellersdaughter with @get_repost ・・・ So pleased to present the fruits of my "summer job" from last summer. I collected essays and stories and even funny sketches from the most amazing (mostly unknown) Amish and Mennonite women writers. What a privilege to ponder and curate these beautiful pieces of "Homespun" writing! The book is divided into six themes: welcome, abide, testimony, wonder, kindred, and beloved. I wrote the introduction, in which I tell about growing up Mennonite and what that means to me, and an introduction to each theme.
