Restored relationships, forgiveness, and grace was the gift I shared with women today. . . Those three things are great needs as we head into the holiday season. . . And the restorative work of Jesus Christ makes it possible. . #guardrails #unchangingGod #parentingexpert #parenting #Christianity #bible #bibleteacher #retreatspeaker #godlyrest #bible #wisdom #godlywisdom #godlywomen #family #Christianservice #christianfamilies #lifebeyondthepicketfence #brendayoder #church #connection #friendship #suffering #JesusChrist #moms #mops #motherhood #christianmoms
A paraphrase from A. B Simpson on the important of faith that obeys, but doesn’t see. . . Today marks 20 years of lasts as my youngest was born 12/7/99, in the wake of Y2K. What I remember the most is that winter was dark. . . Postpartum depression set in deep and hard. . . A lot has happened in 20 years of parenting our full family of four. Hard times. Good times. Desert times. . . This quote sits deep with me today. How many times in 20 years have I believed God in faith when nothing around me said he would deliver. . . Oh friends. In this advent season, cement your faith not in your feelings, but in the word of God. Parenting is not dependent upon feelings. . . Neither is God’s presence in trials. . . Declare who He is in the darkness. Believe who He says he is And mark his light of simple provision.
I’ve been on a journey this year, though I didn’t know it. God was the farthest away I’ve ever known him to be. . . James says, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” . . The God I knew of my past was the God I wanted to know again. Step by step, I’ve moved towards him. I learned he didn’t move, and neither did I. . But the enemy was running interference between us. . . And I only saw the distractions and believed the lies that God had moved. . . Friend, the enemy doesn’t want us close to God, near His camp or pursuing Him. Don’t give up if you don’t feel His presence. Feelings will lie to you. . . Just continue to walk forward.
Friends, will you check on those you love in the coming weeks? Depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and intimate partner violence rise this time of year, in addition to grief and loss many people experience. Especially teens and young adults. Just a text. Let them know you see them. And if it's you, reach out to someone who's safe for you. #guardrails #unchangingGod #parentingexpert #parenting #Christianity #bible #bibleteacher #retreatspeaker #godlyrest #bible #wisdom #godlywisdom #godlywomen #family #Christianservice #christianfamilies #lifebeyondthepicketfence #brendayoder #church #connection #friendship #suffering #JesusChrist #moms #mops #motherhood #christianmoms
A year ago I was struggling with melancholy. It hung on for months, much like the gray Midwest winter. . . As I’ve pursued God and less social media, I’ve experienced joy, contentment, and peace. . . Finishing out 2019, I’m sending cards of gratitude to people in my life. A practice I hope to continue after the holidays. . . Gratitude changes the brain and body. . . Invest in your mental and physical health by a principle of gratitude. Then, watch what follows.
Writing this is my journal caused me to write more thank you’s to the Lord. . . Jesus has been teaching me about Joy. I’ve been choosing to acknowledge joy when I feel it. Then, thanking Him for it. . . These three go together. How much does God teach us but we refuse to acknowledge or thank Him? How much do we choose distraction or discontentment? . . My life hadn’t changed. But Jesus is changing me, choice by choice. Choice is the gift we pick up daily that shapes our lives, for our good or ill. . . What is God teaching you that you can choose to receive? How has your change in perspective also changed you?
