When your kids grow, you want to squish them and keep them little. . I love the toddler years. . I love age 8 or so, when kids develop their interests and their personality explodes. . I love ages ten and eleven. Kids are giddy and growing but still have a side of silliness when no one's looking. . But kids grow, and we parents grow with them. . They need us to grow. . They don't want us to treat them little when they're growing bigger. . They don't want us to hover when it's time for age-appropriate, new experiences. They need us strong, with deep roots. . But do you hover? Or more likely, helicopter? Mamas, we need to be grounded in Christ. My daughter was in preschool when I first realized she wasn't my clone. She was a product of both her father and I, and becoming her own person, too. It's a surreal experience realizing your kids are not mini-me's. Yet it's tempting to parent them that way. Some kids learn how to please you and they're conflicted when they reach adolescence. They really don't think the way you do or want to do what you think they should do. Sometimes they keep it in and shut down. Other times they explode. And other times they save the hassle and do what you want while saying *&^% you in their head, or feel so insecure they're racked with anxiety because they don't know how to do something on their own without you. Pray for me, I texted a friend. I was facing a big day, yet felt vulnerable and insecure in the situation.
